When you think of Miami, the arts district may not be the first to come to mind — but it should be. Filled with vibrant art installations, the Miami Culinary Tour of the District Design Center merges the best eats in the area with a little history.
The leading culinary tour in Miami, Miami Culinary Tours, recently added the Design District Tour to their already impressive roster. The company showcases the many aspects of the city while highlighting impressive venues, delicious bites, and must see sights along the way. Each tour lasts for about 2 hours and covers about a mile in walking distance, give or take. Trust me, it is well worth-it! You’ll uncover sights and bites that are favorites to locals as well as learn a bit of history.
We kicked off the tour at the culinary hodgepodge, St. Roch Market, a high-end contemporary food court in the design district With at least 10 restaurants on site in the main square, there is something for everyone! The food hall is home to some of the most amazing culinary masters in the food scene in Miami. Notable dishes from St. Roch Market include items from Jaffa and Dal Plin. At Jaffa, guests can expect a modern turn on Israeli classics such as: turmeric roasted cauliflower, deconstructed baba ganoush, a hummus bar, and other staples of meze. The savory pasta from Dal Plin was beyond crave-able. Fresh pastas made from seasonal ingredients definitely cultivates a pretty solid meal.
We took a break from the humidity and high temps for a tasting of a chilled refreshing Rose from Abaco Wines before hitting up more spaces in the arts district.
Estefan Kitchen served up the best empanada in the square. Paying homage to typical Havana-style, Estefan Kitchen serves its delectable empanadas, which just happen to be the best Cuban empanada in the square, through the window. Quick bites are served without sacrificing taste and paired with live music, Estefan Kitchen is a must stop if in the area.
A hidden gem in the market space lies, La Pollita, a food truck-inspired dig serving some of the best carne asada in Miami. With over 16 years of restaurant experience Luciana Giangrandi and Alex Meyer elevates the “street” taco! Madlab Creamery was the final stop on the culinary venture. The dessert stop delivers more than just
“I started Miami Culinary Tours to honor the different cultures behind the food. Food is our passion and we always serve it with a side of culture,” states Grace Della, Director Of Operations.” Our culinary tours are different because we emphasize the importance of not only the food but what makes a neighborhood unique. At all of our tours we cover art, local culture and of course the culture behind the food.”
The once-overlooked area of the Design District is now must-see destination with magnificent modern architecture and breathtaking art installations on public areas. This tour is a must once you’re in the city as it highlights the best and will heighten your love for the vibrant city.
