Early Music Society group in Sunnyvale, CA is eager to share with global At-Home audience

Spread the love

While many music lovers are itching to just get out and about, some are not quite ready to venture into heavily populated spaces. Some can’t be out for a number of reasons. The Albany Consort group’s got everyone covered with their “Dark Music for Autumn” program. They performed this particular concert of “dark music” to welcome in the time change last month (seemed fitting to add a bit of cheer to the suddenly earlier onset of the night) AND they recorded the event. It will be re-released via LiveStream- free of charge- for our At-Home enjoyment Friday, December 3 at 7:30pm.

Founders Marion Rubinstein and Jonathan Salzedo will be on hand Live during this party we can all enjoy in the comfort of our own homes. They’ll be introducing the pieces and otherwise connecting with their at-home audience fans.

The thoughtfully curated selections for this event include:

Vivaldi Autumn (hunt drunkenness sleep) and La Notte (scary bumpy Night things)

Monteverdi Zefiro Torna (winds waves mountains valleys)

Purcell Love (tragedy strikes, but beautifully)

Bach Cantata (duet with rich bass accompaniment)

Gounod Funeral March of a Marionette (immortalized by Alfred Hitchcock)

No reservations are needed- just visit the web site for the Zoom Link information; Zoom and stream details will be there on Friday prior to 7:30pm PST. If you don’t see them, call 408-829-8116 for help logging on.

If you are unable to make that time, the LiveStream will stay up once it’s posted.

No ticket purchase is needed, however The Albany Consort company members are glad to accept donations of any size to keep them going!

About The Albany Consort

Husband and wife team Jonathan Salzedo and Marion Rubinstein started The Albany Consort in 1974, straight out of college and university in London. Startup groups like ours fill a need for artistic expression. When you find the status quo unacceptable, the only thing to do is to line up a group of like-minded musicians and find your own way. Most of these groups fade out after a couple of years, because they are inherently unsustainable. But somehow we found a formula that works, and even after forty years we are not ready to stop! This is our experimental platform, where we can shun recording because we don’t like the idea, where we can try out ideas because they just come to us, and where we can avoid the perils of perfectionism which are so endemic in our culture. We run on a shoestring, so only other enthusiasts will work with us.

We started out with a short series at Christ Church, Albany Street, London – hence the group’s name, which seems to have stuck, despite the (delightful) confusion it can cause. When Jonathan moved to California in 1981, the name just wanted to come too. We are firmly rooted in the 17th and 18th centuries, and have tackled repertoire from the smallest to the largest groupings, duos to opera. Somehow the 19th century escaped our notice, but excursions into music written quite recently have been a lot of fun and provide a very different and equally valuable challenge.

Jonathan Salzedo (harpsichord), Marion Rubinstein (recorder and harpsichord) and Laura Rubinstein-Salzedo (violin) run the group. Other musicians are invited to join them, depending on the needs of the music.

The Albany Consort holds non-profit 501(c)3 status as an affiliate of the San Francisco Early Music Society.
