JB Fried Oysters followed by the P.E.I Mussels Pot

Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood touts a new seafood establishment from amiable French owner Jovanis Bourgoub, who explained how the Caribbean inspired menu items were carefully curated and tested two recipes a day ensuring quality taste. Breezy, nautical themed decor permeates throughout as you enter the sports friendly spot, with several TVs mounted along the walls and atop the blue boat shaped bar that crafts pleasing cocktails. Let’s not forget about the free parking located underground off the Lake street entrance which makes visiting Red Fish, Bleu Fish hassle free.

Scrumptious options are bountiful for seafood lovers, vegans, and vegetarians alike. Vegan options include kale and shaved brussel sprout salad, the citrus quinoa salad or the savory wild mushroom pea risotto las olas tagliolini. Creatives can build their own seafood boil with the fourth step asking you to “pick your spice level” from three levels : Sassy, Dynamite Fire or if you dare try level three:  Dragon Fire!

Fan favorites include:

JB Fried oysters (half a dozen) are served in a shell with scotch bonnet ailo and fruit salsa

For those not adventurous enough or afraid of oysters – when it doubt, fry it! Golden fried crispy oysters are light, and palatable. Dipping them into the tangy fruit salsa is a must!

Shrimp Fettuccine

The shrimp fettuccine with creamy lobster bisque sauce, Madagascar, peas and aged Parmesan cheese satisfies al dente cooked pasta aficionados need for firm! Hints of garlic accentuate the seasoning and the shrimp’s slight crunch with mild buttery goodness is a tasty treat.

Moroccan half chicken does not disappoint as it is slow cooked with preserved lemons, castelvetrano green olives, fine herbs and fresh Iranian saffron . Zesty, light lemon sauce mixes well with the tender chicken, as flavorful mashed potatoes (red skins on which are more nutritious and delicious) paired with firm olives create salty perfection completing the dish.

Comfort food from the cold winter is served up as the P.E. I Mussels pot with Atlantic mussels, parsley, white wine, garlic, thyme reduction, or arrabbiata sauce, olives, capers, tomato and chili. The mussels are juicy, soft and briny while the sauce is fresh with a slight kick.

Dinner without dessert? No way! Some people even prefer sweets prior to the meal.  Imagine that! Perfect for celebrating any special occasion, this decadent gelato is smooth and creamy, with sprinkles and Oreo cookie bits adding the right amount of crunch! Happy birthday to you indeed!
