Abraham Stokman All Mozart Recital Preview – A Benefit Concert at Music Institute of Chicago

On Wednesday, May 8th, at 7:30, Music Institute of Chicago is sponsoring an All-Mozart Chamber Recital at Nichols Concert Hall,1490 Chicago Ave., Evanston, IL.

FREE ADMISSION/ SUGGESTED DONATIONS AT THE DOOR

This is a benefit concert on behalf of SHEEP DOG IMPACT ASSISTANCE, a national non-profit organization that engages, assists, and empowers men and women from military service professionals, and volunteers committed to helping communities after natural disasters, as well as fellow “sheep dogs”, when they are in need.

This program has been organized and shall prominently feature pianist, Abraham Stokman, a member of the institute’s faculty since 1991. Stokman, a stellar musical presence in Chicago for decades, has been a soloist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and has performed a series of chamber concerts with members of the CSO throughout the city.  He was a member of the Contemporary Chamber Players with the late composer/conductor, Ralph Shapey, as well as the CUBE Ensemble. In addition, Stokman was founder of the contemporary concert series, “Music for a While”, which ran nine years under the Music Institute’s auspices.

 He will be performing four Mozart piano sonatas and will be joined by two more members of the institute’s faculty.: violinist, Sang Mee Lee, chair of the Music Institute’sString Department and cellist, Paula Kosower, who in addition to teaching at the institute, is a professor at Northwestern University.  These three willl be playing the Piano Trio in B flat Major, K. 502.

Admission to the concert is free, however a suggested donation of $20, with all proceeds going to sheep dog Impact Assistance and its 17 chapters in 15 states providing invaluable help to victims of disasters and to those veterans who have yet to fully recover from the effects of putting their lives on the line in years past.

There will also be a silent auction involving three art works created by Mr. Stokman: an original painting especially made for this occasion, along with prints from previous works of the multi-talented maestro, one of which is titled, ” Bewitched, Bothered, and Fercochde”. A reception will follow the event.

It is worthy to note that the first born of Abraham and Arlene Gatilao Stokman who is also a member of the institute’s faculty, is one Alexandra Stokman Brackett, who is a veteran Captain of The United States Marine Corps and served combat duty in the Iraq War.
